Mount Morris Dairy contracted with AES for a manure storage evaluation in 2006. The farm has a herd size of 1,400 milking and dry cows.  AES completed the storage evaluation and is presently working with the farm to fix and construct a bunk leachate system.  The farm had an original bunk leachate system that failed due to the large amounts of clean water and leachate coming from the bunk and surrounding areas.  AES surveyed the farm and designed a new leachate system to collect all leachate from the bunk, while diverting all clean water.  The high flow bunk silo leachate will be treated with a vegetated treatment area.

AES contracted with NRCS for Hy Hope Farm’s EQIP funded earthen manure storage.  The manure storage was designed to hold manure from six hundred cows for nine months in future expansion.  The manure storage was lined with a clay liner.  Proper compaction was confirmed with nuclear density testing.  AES also contracted directly with the farm to repair and evaluate an existing concrete manure storage, as well as design and construct a bunk leachate system.

AES is contracted by the district for a number of projects ranging from engineering advise on the community digester project to complete design of two concrete manure storages on the KaVern Farm in Weedsport.  The first storage was a 10’ deep semi-circular storage with manure push offs in two locations.  Storage number two was a 120’ diameter circle 12’ deep.  Dana Chapman coordinates AES design services with the District and has a fifteen year relationship providing consulting services.
